The handsome Digi-Key Collegiate Computing Competition bronze traveling trophy proudly displayed in the Science Building "trophy" case.
Carrie Genereax and Curt Huot from Digi-Key came down yesterday to deliver the (big and heavy) bronze traveling trophy that we get to proudly display for a year since one of our teams took first place again this year at their annual Collegiate Computing Competition. 3 of the 4 members of the winning team were able to join us for the presentation (Jason Swanson, Jeremy Bleichner, and Joe Cavanagh); the fourth member (Eli Mayfield) wasn’t able to make it, but has promised to photoshop himself into the photographs later :-).
This is the second time we’ve hosted the trophy; it lived here from October 2006 to October 2007 after UMM’s first 1st place finish that year.
Curt and Carrie also presented the greatly appreciated $3K award UMM’s CSci department receives as well. We use this money to support a lot of student-oriented projects such as helping fund student conference attendance.
Congratulations to the team and thanks again to Digi-Key for running such a nice competition!

Mssrs Swanson, Bleichner, Cavanaugh & Mayfield:
Congratulations. Too few of these kinds of academic competitions exist–a pity they cannot be formalized as are athletic sorts. You all really deserve an extra dollop of happiness for your efforts.
As an “old” alumnus (1964), I graduated before computers were available–doing Pearson’s product-moment Correlation co-efficients on a Friden Calculator for Prof. Klinger in Psychology!
Great job!
